Ryan starts to call, and then text, and then fifteen pizza deliveries and one hot-as-sin kiss later, we’re friends with benefits.

The Silver Key Blog Tour+Giveaway

The Silver Key
by Elena Schauwecker
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: December 6th 2016
BookLogix

Summary from Goodreads:

“If those bad guys—Meladyne—if they have this Key, they will . . .?”
“Unlock the greatest power in all the universe and enslave every man, woman, and child on this planet, destroying the earth and all life as you know it; there will be nowhere to go but Meladyne. Then they’ll leave the Sunolians, the spirits, and all the magical creatures here to die.”
Alyssa pulled the Key out of her pocket and held it up. “Unless I protect this little thing?”
“Yes.”
Alyssa McCaw is a normal fourteen-year-old girl, perfectly happy with her life. But when one little key falls into her hands, her whole world is turned upside down. She suddenly finds herself whisked into a world full of the one thing she never would’ve thought possible: magic. At first, it appears to be a beautiful thing. But as Alyssa and her sister soon discover, magic, like all things, has a dark side. When her best friend Hazel is taken captive by a land of dark magic, it is up to Alyssa and her friends to rescue both Hazel and the world.
A classic tale of light versus dark, this book will pull you into a universe of love, betrayal, and, most of all, magic.

Excerpt:

They wandered aimlessly for a while over the hard, cold ground. An inexplicable feeling of depression and misery began to spread over Alyssa, and she could tell her sister felt it too by the uneasy look on her face. She wanted to curl up in a ball and cry, she wanted to go home and let her mother hold her. She was so cold, so alone, so afraid . . . When the emotion had reached its peak and she was on the verge of sobbing, another thought occurred to her. It wasn’t fair that her parents couldn’t hug her and make her feel better. It wasn’t her fault Hazel was in trouble. But it was most definitely someone’s fault. The depression slowly molded into a deep loathing, an anger coursing through her blood and filling up her soul. She wanted to hurt someone. She wanted to kill someone. Someone had made her suffer, and now they deserved to pay. They should suffer too. The whole world should suffer and be tortured in the most brutal ways because she didn’t have her family, because her sister was in danger, and because her best friend had been captured.

About INK EXPOSED

The Montgomery Ink series continues with the brother that deserves a second chance, and the woman who has always loved him.

Alex Montgomery lost his first love and then proceeded to leave himself in the bottle. Only he and his ex-wife truly know why he fell so hard and so fast down a path he never thought he’d take. Now he’s clean, out of rehab, and learning how to be a Montgomery once again—a task that isn’t quite as easy as some of his family assumes.

Tabby Collins is an honorary Montgomery and the organizational mastermind behind Montgomery Inc., the family’s construction company. She loves her planners, friends, and a certain dark-haired man who’s never given her a second glance.

Alex is slowly re-immersing himself back into the world, but the demons he faced before aren’t out of the picture, and he’ll have to learn to rely on others to make it out whole. When Alex discovers that Tabby’s life is in danger, he not only finds a way to help her but also learns the true woman behind the soft smiles he’s always seen. Their romance won’t be an easy one, but nothing this passionate and heart-pounding ever is.

Excerpt:

Alex Montgomery didn’t need a drink.
But he fucking craved one.
This feeling wasn’t new, of course. The craving was always there. It burned in his gut, spiraled up his spine, and parched his throat. It clawed at him, seduced him, rammed into him like it couldn’t help itself. It was like an angry linebacker, screaming in one ear while a seductive temptress whispered sexy innuendos in the other, both of them telling him to just take one drink.

It would only be one drink, they taunted. Just one.
Only it never ended at one drink.
Because Alex was an alcoholic. He hadn’t had a drink soothe his parched throat, or tried to drown his demons in over a year. He still couldn’t quite believe it sometimes, and yet, other times it felt as if it had been so much longer. Sixteen months sober, but an addict nonetheless. No matter how many days passed and how many drinks he didn’t imbibe, he’d always be an alcoholic. That was something he’d learned to face over the past few months, but sometimes knowing it didn’t make trying to live a normal life any easier.

“You’re here early,” Marie Montgomery said as she made her way to his side. He’d been standing outside even in the cold Denver air, but his mother had found him anyway. He loved the scent of mountains and comfort that seemed to permeate his childhood home, and just looking at the woman who’d raised him made him feel that much closer to what he’d lost…and that much farther away from where he’d started.

His mother had aged well, he thought. To the point he wasn’t sure she’d aged at all. If her genes were what the family could go by when they got older, then most of his siblings were going to look just fine as they entered their fifties and sixties. Alex had probably pickled his liver during his depression so he figured it probably wouldn’t be quite the same for him. He’d more than likely end up harder-edged than his already edgy siblings. But that had been his choice at one point, and then out of his hands after he’d fallen too hard. Now, he’d face the consequences of his decisions. And it was about time he faced the aftermath according to his sponsor and therapist.

His mother wrapped her arms around his waist and held on tightly. He ignored the way his stomach tightened, and hugged her back, the action almost rusty. It hadn’t been easy these past few months to remember how affectionate his family had once been with him. He’d pushed them all away over time, and he was just now learning how to come back—if there were a way to come back. When he closed his eyes and inhaled the scent that had once calmed him, he prayed that one day he’d find himself tranquil again.

He used to drink to forget, and then, because he didn’t know anything else, he’d kept drinking. But now, he needed to remember, damn it.

He kissed the top of his mother’s head since she was so much smaller than he was and took a step back. She was a few inches shorter than all of her sons and even a couple of inches shorter than her three daughters. How Marie Montgomery had been able to raise eight kids as well as all of their friends who’d come to their home day after day was beyond him.

“I’m glad you’re here, though.” She patted his chest and looked up at him with worried eyes. She always held that worry now; and he knew it was his fault that it was there.

“I wouldn’t be anywhere else,” he said honestly. His mother’s eyes softened, and he figured he’d said the right thing. “I know the family dinner starts in a couple hours, but I wanted to come early and see if I could help.” Though their family was considered huge in this day and age, the immediate family members all lived within thirty minutes of each other in the Denver suburbs. Some of them had moved away for a year or two for school or life, but they’d all come back to Denver in the end. Once he’d gotten out of rehab, he’d considered moving away and starting over, but he’d just be hurting those who had loved him through all his crap. They’d stayed with him, pushed him toward the decision he’d had to make for himself, and now, he was glad he’d stayed in the city.

At least, that’s how he felt in that moment. With the way his mind kept going in a thousand different directions, he could change his mind again soon.

Since his parents were ecstatic that all of their babies were so close, they held family dinners twice a month. Sometimes, they made it happen more often; sometimes, they could only get everybody together once, but all of Alex’s siblings tried to make it when they could. Add in the fact that the rest of his family had been having children at an alarming rate recently, and their family dinners were always loud, full, and exhausting.

Once again, he ignored the tightening in his stomach.
I can do this, he told himself again.
He’d been normal once. He could try to at least play at being normal again.

“Anyway, you could have come right into the house, Alex,” his mother continued. “You didn’t have to come in through the backyard. You could have just come right in through the front door. No need to even knock since you’re one of my babies. Since the chemo and radiation treatments are over, your father wasn’t taking a nap like he used to.”

Alex’s father, Harry, had battled prostate cancer the year before when Alex had been going through his own self-induced downward spiral. Alex hadn’t been in any shape to be the kind of son Harry needed when he’d faced death and won. Thankfully, Alex had four other brothers who were far stronger than he was, and three sisters who kicked ass at anything they did.

“I wanted to walk the long way before I made it inside.” He shrugged, and she gave him a curious look. He sighed and pointed to one of the picnic tables on the large patio his father and his brother Austin had built over a decade ago. Austin was a few years older than Alex and had always been good with his hands. Yet it had been the next two siblings in the line, Wes and Storm, who had joined Harry in his construction company. While Austin had opened his own tattoo shop with their sister, Maya.

“I brought my camera in case you wanted photos or something and figured I’d see if anything caught my eye out here.” He didn’t look in her direction as he said it, suddenly self-conscious. He was a photographer and photojournalist by trade, but he’d lost many of his contacts when he found himself at the bottom of a bottle. He’d spent the past year trying to atone for his sins, making new connections and repairing the ones he’d broken, but he wasn’t quite there yet.

His mother put her hand on his forearm, and he looked down at her again. “I think that would be wonderful. Nothing formal I suppose since we didn’t warn anyone, but I’d love some shots of the family being who they are and just enjoying themselves. You were always talented at capturing that.” Tears filled her eyes, and she blinked them away, though not fast enough for him not to feel like a heel for putting them there. “I look forward to seeing what you come up with. You’re so talented.”

He nodded, swallowing hard. Maybe one day he wouldn’t feel like a stranger in the home he’d grown up in, but today wouldn’t be that day. Hell, he felt like a stranger in his own skin, let alone allowing space for anyone else to see who he was.

He didn’t even know who he was anymore.

“Mrs. Montgomery?”

Alex turned at the sound of the soft voice behind him, his heart suddenly beating just a bit faster, though he didn’t know why.

Tabitha moved toward them, a hesitant smile on her face as she studied him and his mom. She wore her light auburn hair up high in a ponytail, but he was pretty sure at one point she’d been blonde. Though it might have just been a trick of the light. If he were honest with himself, he couldn’t quite remember much of the past couple of years. She was a little above average height and all legs—legs he’d checked out more than once in the past year.

But he’d always pushed those thoughts aside, just as he would now. He was in recovery, damn it, and though he was past the year mark that most people suggested addicts wait to start a relationship, he knew that Tabitha wouldn’t be the woman he started up with once he was ready.

mrmr_1600About MY ROGUE, MY RUIN

“Smart and fast-paced with plenty of steam! This writing duo is a powerhouse of talent!” – New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan

He stole their riches, she stole his heart

The Marquess of Hawksfield’s lineage is impeccable and his title coveted, but Archer Croft is as far from his indulgent peers as he can get. His loathing for the beau monde has driven him to don a secret identity and risk everything in order to steal their riches and distribute them to the less fortunate.

Lady Briannon Findlay embraces her encounter with the Masked Marauder, a gentleman thief waylaying carriages from London to Essex. The marauder has stirred Brynn’s craving for adventure, and she discovers an attraction deeper than the charming thief’s mask.

Brynn is a revelation, matching Archer in intelligence, wit, and passion. Stubborn and sensuous in equal measure, she astonishes him at every turn, but when someone sinister impersonates Archer’s secret personality, and a murder is committed, Archer begins to think he doesn’t stand a fighting chance without her.

“Why are you out here at this ungodly hour?” he asked.

“I could ask you the same thing,” she replied. “As well as why you are trespassing on private property.”

Archer smiled at her tone and leaned against a nearby tree, easing the weight of his injured ankle for the moment. There it was—the brief glimpse of the woman he’d met in Dinsmore’s carriage, not the quiet mouse he’d waltzed with. “Ah, but I believe this tree, right here,”—he slapped the trunk with a rakish grin—“marks the dividing line between my estate and yours. So technically, I’m on my property and you are on yours.”

Her eyes narrowed at his teasing before plucking up the tweed cap from where it lay on the ground and tugging it back into place upon her head. She then picked up the spent pistol and tucked it into the narrow, single holster gun belt looped around her waist. “No matter. It’s hardly any of your concern why I am out on my own land. Go on your way, and I’ll be on mine.”

His jaw dropped as she wound her fist into the horse’s bridle, loosely slung around its neck, and pulled herself deftly up onto the horse’s back. She sat astride in a way that made his pulse shorten. “Where is your saddle?” he managed.

She eyed him imperiously. “I don’t like them, not that it’s any of your business.”

“It isn’t safe,” he ground out, surprised by his sudden irritation.

“I’ve been riding without a saddle since I was a child,” she shot back. “I’m safer without one than I am with one.”

“As you were before you got thrown into the river?” Archer couldn’t resist taunting.

Her jaw jutted forward, a mutinous look in her eyes. She pressed her lips together, likely to stop herself from uttering something completely inappropriate. Perhaps one of the colorful words she’d been using while attempting to climb out of the gulch.

“And what if you were attacked by the masked bandit—again?” he continued. “Or haven’t you had enough danger for the time being?”

“I can protect myself,” she said.

“What with?” he asked before he thought of the clean hole in the boar’s forehead.

Briannon sighed dramatically. “Why, with my knitting needles, of course.”

Struck again by her lightning-quick wit, the short bark of laughter left his lips before he could contain it. “Pray, where was your pistol the other night when you were robbed?”

“In my knitting reticule, of course, where all ladies’ pistols are kept,” came her tart response. “I assure you, if I had my pistol, the outcome of that robbery would have been quite different.”

51 Love Book Blast+ Giveaway

51 Love

by Jeremy T. Ringfield

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: New Adult Contemporary Romantic Suspense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

This story is about Abram, a hopeless romantic who enrolls into college and begins leaving love notes for the girl, Jec, who works at the front desk of his student apartments. About why they know each other when neither have even met. That’s right, she had seen his face only two weeks earlier, when he tossed his book bag in the middle of the street, holding up traffic like a mad homeless man. But what she doesn’t know is that just before he came to grab his keys to move in, the handsome albeit strange eyes and the person they belong to had just been released from the county jail.

The jail cell talk without any cameras around to record make his last 51 minutes in the pen with a sketchy bunkmate a do or die conversation that may explain why he became homeless, why he wrote the love letters in the first place, and if both were random at all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
The same day in August, 2015
I think, for the price of a pizza, the experience of the novel is priceless.
A literary ecstasy, this was not a book I wanted to lend. I had to have it.
My co-worker interjects my thoughts, “Is that lighter fluid? What is he burning out there in our fire pit? I’m telling you Jec, that dude killed somebody. You haven’t seen him around as long as I have. The way he’s always scrunching his face, looking like a stone cold killer with all that stinking thinking. Some people struggle with who they really are. And when it goes foul, you know they don’t always catch these people.”
He picks up and holds out the book I am reading titled Wait For You, and says, “Some novels you have to read twice to really see all the beauty in the nuances, but these plots don’t always end beautifully Jec. You should start reading more of them.”
I take a bite out of an apple and stop scratching my thumb across a squiggled smear on my permanent marker to look out the window as I reply to my front desk co-receptionist, “Bobby, you’re being ridiculous. It just looked like he pulled some papers from a box and threw them into the pit. Hey, where’d he go?”
Bobby answers quickly, “No really, have you seen him using his hands on the street? He’s probably practicing some lethal judo that nobody knows right now. Hi-yah!—”
Ding-Ding.
At the sound of the front door bell I tried to smother my giggle in professionalism, but I no longer found it necessary to suppress as the blurry silhouette of the person entering the front door became clear and my laughter came to a sudden halt.
Excerpt
“Oh, Tuck.” The tears spilled over. She chewed at her bottom lip, and his heart sank. She didn’t want to look at him. Why not? Because of Brady? Here it comes. Melissa was too smart to marry another military guy. She’d been through enough hell with the first. What made Tucker think she’d want to go through that again?
He gulped what was left of his pride and prepared for the letdown. Damn. It would be a long, lonely walk back to Hồ Chí Minh City to catch that red-eye flight if this woman scorned him. He swallowed the lump in his throat. Felt like a Bradley tank.
About The Author
irish
Irish Winters is an award-winning author who dabbles in poetry, grandchildren, and rarely (as in extremely rarely) the kitchen. More prone to be outdoors than in, she grew up the quintessential tomboy in rural Wisconsin, spent her teenage years in the Pacific Northwest, but calls the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah home. For now. The wife of one handsome husband and mother of three perfect sons, Irish divides her time between writing at home, and traveling the country with her man while – writing. (Seriously, what else? She believes in making every day count for something, and follows the wise admonition of her mother to, “Look out the window and see something!”
About the Book
It’s been almost twenty
years since Claire met her ex in high school, and now she finds herself thrust
into the dating world for the first time as an adult, armed with little more
than confusion and lack of experience. Not only is Ron the only man she’s ever
been with, she’s also coping with the loss of her fertility, and if she goes on
one more hideous blind date – possibly her mind. Determined to avoid both
online dating and meetup groups, she endures fix-ups with all sorts of
memorable characters, such as weepy Pete, the drunk skunk, the cheap hot-dog
eater, and let’s not forget – the unholy speed dater.
As Claire becomes more depressed over her plight,
her best friend Jane prompts her to redirect her maternal longings by adopting
an adorable wiener dog puppy. Dixie is not a human baby, but hopefully she will
provide her new Mommy with a diversion from the parade of loony men marching
through her lonely nights – that’s if Mommy’s house and sanity survive the
destructive cyclone that is an untrained three-pound ball of craziness!
Unfortunately, while Claire is trying to move on,
Ron is trying to pull her back into the past, and his life. Determined to win
back his wife’s affections, he offers to help Claire with home repairs as he
tries to implement ‘Operation Friends’ in an effort to persuade his wife into
giving him another chance. However, Ron is struggling with his own adjustment
to single life, and isn’t finding it easy to ditch the Amazon woman, or his new
‘mail order bride’ dating site hobby, no matter how much he has convinced
himself that he and Claire belong together.
DAZED & DIVORCED is Book 1 in the Rom-Com on
the Edge series. All books are standalone novels, but read in order for
maximum fun!
EXCERPT:
Jed clears his throat and says, “So, Claire are you here in pursuit of marriage and a family?”
Even though I have now met several of his type tonight, I remain astounded at their existence. Is there one normal man worthy of a real date? Not just here, but anywhere?
I once again look at the daunting line of potential suitors still slated to come my way and sigh. “I’m not really sure how to answer that. I’m just trying to meet people since my divorce.”
Jed winces, and is probably already praying for this sullied woman…
“But you surely want children?”
I lean back in my seat, finally relaxing my posture. This is unbelievable. The last thing I expected was to discuss my darkest problems at fucking speed dating!
But since Jed’s not even in the neighborhood of a possibility, I fold my arms and say, “I would have loved them, but I can’t have them.”
I expect him to apologize for bringing up a touchy subject, or to express his condolences. Or to tell me that God must have a different plan for me, and that I should come on his mission trip to a malaria-infested jungle to find my calling.
Instead, he places his hands on the table in front of him and grows very serious. “Claire, we must pray that the Lord will bring you children.”
I smile nervously now. “No, prayer won’t help me. I had a hysterectomy.”
He jumps back as our shift change is loudly announced by Mary.
As he stands up, he says, “I see. Well, since you have allowed the devil’s work to be done to your body, I don’t know that you can be—”
A tall, attractive man appears beside psycho Pastor Jed, who obviously has abortion and hysterectomy confused, and says, “Okay, buddy. Nice speech. Let’s move it along. I need to meet this beautiful blonde.”
Jed moves on in disgust and the somewhat hot new guy sits down, and I immediately start laughing. It starts as a smirk but I can’t hold it in.
“And what’s so funny, Miss…Claire?”
His ability to read my nametag on my chest without fear is a good sign, but it’s his name that’s got me in stitches.
“Hello, Christian.”
He now seems to get the joke and says, “Yes, it is rather humorous that my name is Christian and I’m the least holy one in the bunch tonight. Are there some nutters here or what?”
“I’ll say, but let’s not waste time on them. Were you invited here by one of the church ladies?”
“I was.”
He nods his head in the direction of my seat neighbor. I wonder how they know each other, but I don’t want to waste time on useless chatter with the one normal guy here.
“Me, too.” I am suddenly at a loss for words as I take in my new speed date’s dark hair and eyes. I can also peek at his firm chest from here, and his forearms and hands are strong and remind me of Ron’s…ugh…why am I thinking about Ron at a time like this?
“Hey, Claire, I have an idea.” He lowers his voice and continues, “Between you and me, I’m not seeing any good pickings in either direction you or I are headed tonight.”
We both look in the direction of the singles we haven’t met, and I have to agree that it looks dismal.
I turn back towards Christian and say, “What were you thinking?”
I am already feeling a little light-headed with excitement and I haven’t even had a drink. That’s a good sign—and Rebecca keeps telling me how I need to loosen up and take chances.
“I propose we get the hell out of here.” He eyes the door to the parking lot and our freedom.
“Really? Just get up and run out the door?”
I thought he was going to say let’s go outside of their rules and exchange information now, or plan to meet later in the week. Something spontaneous and romantic. But I guess running out of speed dating hand-in-hand with a handsome stranger is pretty romantic—it feels like a movie scene.
I steal one more quick glance down the row to my left at the men coming up next, and I catch the eye of the guy from the parking lot. I’m not looking forward to him telling me about a church sponsored lotion snorting rehab he can recommend, so I look Christian dead in the eye and say, “Okay, but you lead.”
Before anyone even looks up from their own captivating partners, Christian has grabbed my hand and we are in the parking lot, laughing our asses off. I also notice he has a nice one.
“That was sensational. I can’t believe you agreed.”
His smile is huge and I am overjoyed just seeing someone happy because of something I did. I haven’t had much of that lately.
I wipe my eyes in case my happy tears have smudged my makeup, and say, “I am trying to work on my sense of adventure.”
We are still standing in the parking lot, and I’m kind of surprised that none of the church ladies have followed us out here to admonish us for breaking the rules. However, it’s more likely that a round of applause and prayers of thanksgiving have erupted due to the departure of the two heathens.
Really, I do consider myself to be a believer…I’m not sure exactly what I believe, but I’ve never been made to feel like a terrible person before at any church function. Those people are complete whackjobs.
Christian runs his fingers through his thick hair and points to his car. “I’m over there. Do you want to follow me and get a drink first?”
I look in the general direction of his vehicle, and think a moment before saying, “First?”
